Enoshima: An Island of Enduring Love — Sea, Shrine & Shared Life

DestinationFujisawa, Japan
Duration3 hours
Tour sizeMax 8
LanguageJapanese, Spanish, French, English

Overview

This small-group walking tour is designed for couples and partners who wish to experience Enoshima at a slower, more meaningful pace. Rather than rushing through highlights, the tour invites you to walk the island as a place shaped by the sea, faith, and the passage of time.

Enoshima has long been known as a place of connection—between land and ocean, belief and daily life, and people who continue to walk side by side. As you move along coastal paths, shrine grounds, and island viewpoints, the scenery unfolds not as spectacle, but as something quietly shared.

The route follows a carefully planned path and maintains a calm rhythm, allowing time to pause, look out over the sea, and take in the atmosphere together. The focus is not on covering every corner of the island, but on creating space for conversation, reflection, and presence.
Conducted in a small group and available by advance reservation only, this experience offers a gentle way to explore Enoshima beyond typical sightseeing.

What's included

  • A Professional Local Guide
  • Photo opportunities throughout

What to expect

  1. Enoshima Benten Bridge

Walk across the bridge connecting the mainland to Enoshima Island while enjoying views of the sea. The guide explains how this crossing represents a shift from everyday life to a more reflective, island atmosphere. Time is included for photos.
  2. Enoshima Shrine Hetsumiya

Learn about the origins of Enoshima Shrine and Benzaiten worship. The guide explains why themes of love, marriage, and harmony have long been associated with the island, followed by a relaxed walk through the shrine grounds.
  3. Enoshima Shrine Nakatsumiya

Climb toward Nakatsunomiya while experiencing the island’s slopes and stairways. The guide explains the meaning of ascending the island and the connection between faith and physical movement. Includes a short break and photo time.
  4. Enoshima Shrine Okutsumiya

Visit the shrine located at the island’s deepest point. The guide explains its role as a sacred endpoint where time, the sea, and belief have overlapped for centuries. A quiet moment is spent here before heading toward Chigogafuchi.
  5. Chigogafuchi Abyss

Pause at the rocky shoreline to take in sweeping ocean views. Guests are encouraged to feel the changing waves, wind, and light while sharing a moment centered on the theme of long-lasting relationships.
  6. Enoshima Iwaya Caves

View the caves from the outside while learning about Enoshima’s nature-based beliefs and the symbolism of caves as inner, sacred spaces. The tour does not enter the caves, focusing instead on atmosphere and context.
